WeeGee Exhibition Centre, Ahertajantie 5, Tapiola
This design and architecture event will feature inspiring talks, an over-the-top art workshop for aspiring style gurus, guided tours, a city walk around Tapiola and an art and history tour of the West Metro stations. The iconic Futuro house will also be open to the public for the day.
The programme is mainly in Finnish unless otherwise stated.
Visitors will be served by Café Lumière WeeGee and museum shop EMMA Shop.
The event is included in the price of the museum ticket, €12/10, free admission for visitors under 18 and over 70 years of age and Museum Card holders.

12:00–13:00 ARTIST WALK: GRAFFITI ARTIST ACTON IN KIVENLAHTI
Travel to 1990s Kivenlahti with graffiti artist Acton. Note: The guided tour will actually take place in Kivenlahti. The tour starts from the main entrance of Espoonlahti Swimming Hall (Espoonlahdenkuja 4) and ends in the Espoonlahdenranta underpass.
13:00–14:30 ARCHITECTURAL WALKING TOUR OF TAPIOLA
The walk will take you to the heart of the iconic garden city. Come and learn about Tapiola’s history and old and new architecture under expert guidance. The tour starts from WeeGee’s main entrance.
15:00–17:00 CULTURAL TOUR OF THE WEST METRO
On this tour, you will learn about the works of art at the West Metro stations, the architecture and the history of the area. At the Niittykumpu Metro Station, the Okapi artwork will be introduced by artist Lotta Mattila. The tour can be attended by 30 people in the order of arrival. The tour will include walking and riding on the metro, so comfortable shoes and HSL tickets are recommended. The tour starts from WeeGee’s main entrance. It ends at the Matinkylä Metro Station.
11:30 GUIDED TOUR OF THE BRYK & WIRKKALA VISIBLE STORAGE/EMMA, 2nd floor
A guided tour of the collection based on the personal work archives of Rut Bryk (1916–1999) and Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985).
12:00–15:00 MEET A JEWELLERY DESIGNER/MUSEUM OF HOROLOGY, 1st floor
Jewellery design students from the Lahti Institute of Design speak about their jewellery included in the 80 Years of Jewellery and Skill exhibition and their work in jewellery design.
12:00–14:00 THE MYSTERY OF ESPOONLAHTI – AN INDEPENDENT ACTIVITY TOUR FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY/KAMU, 1st floor
An independent tour full of activities for the whole family at the Eyes on the Horizon exhibition.
13:00 STYLE AS AN INGREDIENT OF IDENTITY/STARTS FROM THE WEEGEE LOBBY
On this guided tour, artist and fashion designer Justus Kantakoski will introduce EMMA’s exhibitions from the viewpoints of style, fashion and identity.
13:30 ARCHIVE OF GESTURES AND ACTIONS/STARTS FROM THE WEEGEE LOBBY
This special guided tour will transcend the boundaries between performing arts and visual arts. The tour studies the layers of remembering – moments lived in a space, gestures repeated and steps taken. The work reinvents conventional guided museum tours, extending the horizons of fact and fiction by means of performing arts. The workgroup consists of choreographer Tero Hytönen and dancer Aino Purhonen.
14:30 OBJECTS, STATUS AND IDENTITY/KAMU, 1st floor
This guided tour of KAMU’s historical exhibition familiarises visitors with the messages that objects have intended to convey and the significance of objects in the identity construction process. The guide will be Katja Weiland-Särmälä, who is currently preparing her doctoral dissertation in art history.
15:30 WEEGEE – A HOUSE WITHOUT LOAD-BEARING WALLS/STARTS FROM THE WEEGEE LOBBY
Under the guidance of CEO, architect Vepe Erikkilä and structural designer xx, this tour will familiarise visitors with the WeeGee house and its structure, designed by Aarno Ruusuvuori. At the end of the tour, at 16:00, participants will have the chance to view the documentary “Aarno Ruusuvuori – betonin ja valon arkkitehti” (“Aarno Ruusuvuori – Architect of Concrete and Light”). Organised in cooperation with Innovarch Architects.
WORKSHOPS – ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES
13:00–17:00 SPECIAL HOUSE OF THE FUTURE/ARKKI WORKSHOP ROOM (entrance from the outside)
Are there houses that can fly? Where would you and your house land? Organised by the Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, this workshop will involve ideation and construction of unique miniature houses inspired by architect Matti Suuronen’s Futuro house.
13:00–15:00 BARK BOAT WORKSHOP/WIRKKALA, 1st floor
Organised by the Toy Museum and Friends of the Toy Museum, this workshop invites visitors to build bark boats. Revisit your childhood and try your hand at designing this classic boat today.
12:00–16:00 MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD/TOY MUSEUM WORKSHOP, 2nd floor
The Toy Museum wants to preserve your childhood memories. Sit down, have a cup of coffee and some sweets, revisit the playgrounds of your childhood and let your memories guide you.
13:00–17:00 OVER-THE-TOP CLOTHING – BETTER TOO MUCH THAN TOO LITTLE? /PALETTI, 1st floor
At this open art workshop, you can create grandiose and excessive accessories. What depicts your style? What is your thing? Featuring artist and fashion designer Justus Kantakoski.

Produced by EMMA, this documentary about Rut Bryk is a warm portrait of the artist. Rut Bryk (1916–1999) was a reformer of modern ceramics. Duration: 49 min 12 s.
14:00, 15:00 AND 16:00 DOCUMENTARY: AARNO RUUSUVUORI – BETONIN JA VALON ARKKITEHTI (ARCHITECT OF CONCRETE AND LIGHT)/KAMU SALON, 1st floor
Directed by Tina Cavén, this is a documentary about architect Aarno Ruusuvuori, who designed the WeeGee house. Ruusuvuori (1925–1992) is considered one of the most significant modern architects of his time. Duration: 15 min.
