Join us in a celebration of our city and the Espoo Day on 24 and 25 August 2018 (Fri 11–19, Sat 11–17) at the Exhibition Centre WeeGee! All the museums in WeeGee offer a lot of things to see and do. Attend our popular workshops, hear how the Plastic Heart installation in the Futuro House was born and enjoy the exhibitions. WeeGee will start the festivities already on Friday afternoon with events for adults. Our Saturday programme is suitable for children and adults alike. The entire programme is available at www.weegee.fi. All events are in Finnish, unless stated otherwise. Free of charge!

FRIDAY 24 AUGUST

 

11-19 PLASTIC HEART
Immersive 18-channel sound installation, duration: 14 min, loop. Futuro turns 50 years this year. To celebrate the jubilee year, the City of Espoo invited artist and filmmaker Mika Taanila to create a new artwork based on the Futuro. The result is Plastic Heart, a multi-channel sound installation which can only be heard inside the Futuro.

Take a closer look at one of the themes of our exhibition A Century of Gifts – Kultakeskus 100 Years.
 
17–19 NEIGHBOUR QUIZ
This playful quiz will test your knowledge of Estonia.
 
17–19 LOTTE AND MOOMIN PUPPET WORKSHOP
Make your own Moomin or Lotte puppet in the Finnish Toy Museum Hevosenkenkä’s workshop.
 
17–19 I LOVE ESPOO PIN BADGE WORKSHOP
Confess your love to Espoo by making your own pin badge. The workshop will run non-stop until we run out of materials. 1 badge/person.
 
17–18 GUIDED TOUR OF THE FUTUROMANIA EXHIBITION
A guided tour of EMMA’s Futuromania – Design Future Living exhibition.
 
17:15–17:30 ARTEFACT QUARTER
Every item in the Espoo City Museum KAMU’S exhibition A Thousand Stories About Espoo has a story. This mini tour will introduce you to one of them.
 
17:30–17:45 IN BRIEF: MÄNG + GAME = 100! MINIATURE EXHIBITION
A brief introduction to the miniature exhibition produced by the Finnish Toy Museum Hevosenkenkä and the Tartu Toy Museum in Estonia. The exhibition celebrates the past hundred years of the two neighbouring countries.
 
18–18:15 INSIGHT QUARTER
Take a closer look at one of the themes of our exhibition A Century of Gifts – Kultakeskus 100 Years.

Intendant Arja Miller, curator of Plastic Heart, interviews visual artist and film director Mika Taanila about the planning of, inspiration for and work stages of the artwork celebrating Futuro’s anniversary.

11–14 DESIGN #MUNTAPIOLA IN AUGMENTED REALITY
Light, greenery, tropicality? Something fun, services and stylish architecture? How would you like the new Tapiola metro station to look? Participate in the design of the metro station and its surrounding in a workshop held by the City of Espoo and 3DBear, using augmented reality. Share your suggestions with everyone on social media using the hashtag #muntapiola. The workshop has room for the first 50 people.
 
11–16 ORIENTEERING IN THE FINNISH MUSEUM OF HOROLOGY
Find the pictured items in the Finnish Museum of Horology and have fun while exploring the museum. Suitable for the whole family.
 
12–13 A FAMILY HOUR IN THE MUSEUM: TOUCH HISTORY
Try out and experience the museum yourself. The family hour is intended for family members of all ages!
 
12–15 TRADITIONAL TOYS AND GAMES
Can you twirl a hula hoop? Will your cone cows stay in their pen? Can you hit tin cans with your slingshot? Try traditional toys and games on WeeGee’s front yard. The Friends of the Finnish Toy Museum Hevosenkenkä have helped organise this playful event. Please note! The event depends on the weather. In front of WeeGee.

12–16 ANNIVERSARY CAKE
The Espoo School of Art will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2019. Join the pre-party with your whole family and visit a workshop where you can add your touch to the school’s anniversary cake! Create shapes and forms and attach them to the great birthday cake that will be constructed in the workshop. This communal artwork will be later showcased in an exhibition at the Mini-Galleria gallery of the Espoo School of Art.
 
13–15 A JAZZY PICNIC
The Ebeli Big Band and smaller ensembles formed by Ebeli’s members entertain on WeeGee’s terrace with their director Rasmus Soini.
 
13:30–13:45 SNABBGUIDNING TILL MINIUTSTÄLLNINGEN MÄNG+PELI = 100! (IN SWEDISH)
Under snabbguidningen bekantar vi oss med Leksaksmuseet Hevosenkenkäs och Tartu leksaksmuseums gemensamma miniutställning, som firar de två grannländernas hundraåriga historia.
